BPC-157 is a fragment of a larger protein, the one its discoverers called body protection compound, which a group at the University of Zagreb isolated from human gastric juice in the early 1990s. The parent protein was characterized only in part; this fifteen-residue stretch of it is the piece that went on to be synthesized, cataloged and written about.
The chain is linear and unmodified: no amide cap, no acetyl group, no unusual residues. Three prolines in a row near the N terminus give it an unusually rigid shoulder for a peptide this short. Ezranova's material is made entirely by solid-phase synthesis, so nothing in the vial was extracted from anything.
